Why We Built Venuera on WooCommerce (And What It Means for You)

When we started building Venuera, the first big decision was the most consequential: build our own checkout and commerce engine, like many ticketing plugins do, or build on top of WooCommerce. We chose WooCommerce, deliberately and emphatically. Here’s why — and what that choice means for you as an organizer.
The temptation to build everything ourselves
Building your own checkout is appealing because you control every pixel. But it also means rebuilding — and then maintaining forever — carts, payment gateways, tax engines, coupon logic, refund flows and order emails. That’s thousands of edge cases that mature commerce platforms have already solved over many years. Reinventing them is how plugins end up buggy, insecure or perpetually behind.
WooCommerce had already solved the hard parts
WooCommerce powers a huge share of online stores for good reason. It supports virtually every payment gateway, handles complex tax rules, has battle-tested coupon and refund systems, and a vast ecosystem of extensions. By building on it, a ticket becomes a real product — and inherits all of that maturity for free. We get to focus our energy on what’s genuinely ticketing-specific: QR tickets, seat maps, check-in, recurring events.
What it means for you: one checkout, no surprises
For you, the benefit is concrete. Your buyers check out through a flow they recognise, with the payment methods you already trust. Your taxes and coupons just work. Your tickets and your other products (merch, memberships) live in one cart and one set of orders — not a parallel system you have to reconcile.
No plugin conflicts, no parallel payments
Standalone ticketing tools that run their own checkout can clash with the rest of your site and split your payments across two systems. Because Venuera speaks WooCommerce natively — and is HPOS-ready for performance — it fits into your store instead of fighting it.
You own your data and your stack
Building on WooCommerce on your own WordPress site means your sales, your customers and your reports are yours — exportable, GDPR-manageable, and never locked behind someone else’s platform. That ownership is a big part of why organizers move off marketplaces in the first place.
Free core, add-ons when you grow
The same philosophy shaped our pricing. The core is free and genuinely unlimited, and you add capabilities — a seat map, a box office, recurring events — only when your events need them. Building on WooCommerce keeps our footprint lean enough to make that possible. The result, we hope, is a ticketing system that feels less like a bolt-on and more like a natural extension of the WordPress store you already run.
See the WooCommerce-first difference
Venuera is a free, WooCommerce-first event ticketing system for WordPress. Build the event, design the ticket, sell it through your own checkout and scan guests in at the door — no per-ticket fees, no third-party platform.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Venuera built on WooCommerce instead of its own checkout?
Because WooCommerce has already solved carts, gateways, taxes, coupons, refunds and order emails over many years. Building on it lets us focus on ticketing-specific features while you inherit a mature, trusted checkout.
What does WooCommerce-first mean for me as an organizer?
Your buyers use a familiar checkout with payment methods you trust, your taxes and coupons just work, and tickets and other products share one cart and one set of orders — no parallel system to reconcile.
Will Venuera conflict with my existing store?
No — it speaks WooCommerce natively and is HPOS-ready, so it fits into your store rather than running a competing checkout, avoiding the plugin conflicts and split payments standalone tools can cause.
Do I own my sales and customer data?
Yes. Everything lives in your own WordPress and WooCommerce installation — exportable, GDPR-manageable and never locked behind a third-party platform.
